{"id":7780,"date":"2020-04-01T14:50:37","date_gmt":"2020-04-01T21:50:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sherwoodcharterschool.org\/?p=7780"},"modified":"2020-04-01T14:50:41","modified_gmt":"2020-04-01T21:50:41","slug":"update-scs-at-home-with-new-guidance-from-the-ode","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sherwoodcharterschool.org\/2020\/04\/01\/update-scs-at-home-with-new-guidance-from-the-ode\/","title":{"rendered":"Update: SCS At Home with New Guidance from the ODE"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>April 1, 2020<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dear SCS Community,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Monday this week we sent out information regarding the launch of SCS at Home supplemental learning which began today. Many families have already begun participating and teachers are excited to be able to get reconnected with their students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A few hours after sending our SCS at Home learning communication, we received <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.oregon.gov\/ode\/students-and-family\/healthsafety\/Documents\/Distance%20Learning%20for%20All%20Guidance%20March%202020.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">new guidance<\/a> from the Oregon Department of Education that changed their stance on how education is to move forward during this extended closure. As stated by Director Colt Gill, \u201cthere is a strong possibility that students will not be returning to classrooms this school year\u201d and because of this Oregon schools are now required to provide<strong> Distance Learning for All <\/strong>beginning April 13th.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Distance Learning for All will be a process for students to receive ongoing interaction with their teacher. It is not just online instruction. It provides for blended learning strategies and access to appropriate educational materials through multiple modes of communication. Once launched, student participation will be required. They will complete assignments and will receive report cards. Attendance will also be recorded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Key elements of Distance Learning for All are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Every student will regularly connect with their teacher(s).<\/li><li>Teachers and students prioritize time together to focus on the most important or relevant learning.<\/li><li>Teachers, families, and caregivers work as a team, anchored in partnership. Together, teachers and families co-facilitate learning, design consistent routines, and establish the learning environment.<\/li><li>Teachers continue to monitor, report, and record each student\u2019s progress toward learning goals and standards, encouraging critical problem-solving, collaboration, communication, and creativity.<\/li><li>Schools provide multiple, flexible opportunities &#8211; for high school students in particular &#8211; to earn credit on their pathway to graduation.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What will the next few weeks look like for the SCS community?<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Beginning today, April 1 through April 9, SCS at Home supplemental learning is available. During this time, teachers will continue to provide the self guided optional supplemental resources as well as check in with students and families.<\/li><li>April 6 through April 9, the office will continue working to resolve any unforeseen technical issues as well as reach out to families to coordinate resources and needed supplies to prepare for the upcoming Distance Learning for All.&nbsp;<\/li><li>On Monday, April 13, Oregon schools are required to have a <strong>Distance Learning for All<\/strong> plan in place with a focus on care, community and continuity of learning.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>As we dive into these new requirements, we will send out information to families as we can. We will do our best to keep everyone informed with the rapidly developing changes and information.
