Dear Sherwood School District Community, <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This Friday, Sherwood High School has the pleasure of hosting a football game in competition with Newberg High School. In the spirit of inclusion and collaboration, our Bowmen Student Council has been working with Newberg High School\u2019s Student Council to create an event focused on love and kindness, while still honoring the spirit of competition and sportsmanship inherent to high school athletics. In a time that is so difficult for so many, this is our opportunity to support and uplift one another while cheering on our athletes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In keeping with the theme, our Bowmen Student Council has asked our spectators to show their support for members of both communities by wearing rainbow colors. As a district, we support our students\u2019 message of love and kindness, and we invite you all to do so with us. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Please take a moment to read the following statement from our Bowmen Student Council:\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFor our October 1st home football game against Newberg, SHS Student Council voted in favor of making our student section theme a Rainbow Out. A Rainbow Out means our students will have the option to dress in rainbow clothes. Our past themes have included a Bowmen Out, Pink Out, America Out and Western Out. We have worked closely with the Newberg leadership students on this decision and both schools will be participating. This theme was chosen with care to show our allyship and support for the LGBTQ+ community & people of color in Sherwood and Newberg. We want to be clear that we are doing this with Newberg, not at Newberg. If you choose to come to the game, please come with love and respect, keeping in mind that we are teenagers trying to make a positive impact on our Sherwood community and not trying to protest or make a political statement.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
