Metropolitan Land Group Refuses One-On-One Negotiations with
\nSchool District <\/font><\/span><\/h3>\n

On Tuesday April 10, 2018, the Sherwood School District (SSD)
\noffered to meet Hillsboro real estate investor Metropolitan Land Group (MLG) to
\ndiscuss future development under terms intended to foster a
\npartnership-oriented relationship. \u00a0On April 12, 2018, MLG declined to
\nmeet under the School District\u2019s proposed conditions.<\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

MLG and SSD have engaged for almost a year in law suits over the
\nvalue of land MLG purchased or optioned from long-time area residents.
\n\u00a0MLG had intended, according to its trial witnesses, to sell the land for
\n\u201cMove-up Homes\u201d valued at $650-$750,000.\u00a0
\nSSD intends to use the site to build a new, larger high school to
\naccommodate its students \u2013 whose population has outgrown the present school.<\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

In December, a Washington County jury valued one of the parcels at
\n$120,000 per acre, very close to the value established by an independent
\nappraisal. \u00a0MLG had claimed it was entitled to collect $550,000 per acre,
\nwhile MLG\u2019s own appraiser testified it was worth $360,000 per acre.<\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

Now, MLG is pressing the City for a further expansion of the Sherwood
\nUrban Growth Boundary, and has requested SSD\u2019s support. \u00a0MLG has said it
\nwants to be SSD\u2019s partner. <\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

At the same time MLG claims it wants to be SSD\u2019s partner, it has
\ngone to court seeking to set aside the jury\u2019s December verdict on its land
\nvaluation. \u00a0MLG sued the District to attempt to force SSD to pay for MLG\u2019s
\nlawyers\u2019 fees from the December trial.\u00a0
\nMLG even appealed the City\u2019s decision to annex the school site, despite
\nthe fact the MLG is currently pushing to expand the City for its own land-speculation
\npurposes.<\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

At a recent city council meeting, MLG again said it wants to meet
\nand to be SSD\u2019s partner. SSD took MLG at its word, and as a result, SSD agreed
\nto meet with representatives of MLG, on conditions that would reaffirm MLG\u2019s
\ndesired partnership with SSD. <\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

SSD is saddened to learn that MLG has refused SSD\u2019s proposed
\nmeeting and to otherwise take steps to act like the partner MLG says it wants
\nto be with SSD, without adding extraneous issues or inviting outside parties.
\n\u00a0SSD remains open to meeting with MLG on the basis of mutual respect and
\npartnership.\u00a0 When MLG is ready, we\u2019ll be
\nhere.\u00a0 But if not, then we will be forced
\nto see them in court again.<\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

The Sherwood School District Board of Directors realizes this
\npress release is an unusual step. \u00a0We don\u2019t usually take our disputes to
\nthe media. But we believe it\u2019s important for the Sherwood community to know
\nthat our main priorities are the future of our students, and the wise use of
\nthe considerable resources which have been entrusted to us by the people who
\nlive in Sherwood.<\/font><\/span><\/p>\n
