Schools
\nand emergency services buildings across the state of Oregon will soon be safer
\ndue to the latest round of seismic rehabilitation grants from Business Oregon.
\nTwelve schools, including Sherwood Middle School, and eight emergency service
\norganizations will receive $35 million in grants to shore up their structures
\nin preparation for impending earthquakes.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Building
\na more resilient Oregon is a top priority, and we must continue our critical,
\nongoing efforts to bolster our schools and key emergency and community centers
\nthroughout the state,\u201d Governor Kate Brown said. “By working together to
\nleverage local, state, and federal resources, we can create safer communities
\nthat will be better prepared and ready to recover more quickly from a major
\ndisaster or catastrophic Cascadia earthquake.”\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The
\nSeismic Rehabilitation Grant Program is a state of Oregon competitive grant
\nprogram that provides funding for the seismic rehabilitation of critical public
\nbuildings, specifically public schools and emergency services facilities. The
\nprogram was created by the Oregon Legislature in 2005, transferred to Business
\nOregon in 2014, and is one of the infrastructure programs Business Oregon
\nadministers who help develop livable and prosperous communities in addition to
\nbusiness development services and programs.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe
\nSherwood Middle School is a key component of addressing growth across the
\ndistrict\u201d said Jim Rose, Chief Operations Officer. \u201cThe Seismic Rehabilitation
\nGrant will help the district with a much needed strategic investment in our
\nfacilities. We are thrilled to leverage these dollars with the 2016 Capital
\nImprovement Bond resources to keep students safe in their learning
\nenvironment.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
