{"id":148,"date":"2016-11-23T21:05:02","date_gmt":"2016-11-23T21:05:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sherwood.k12.or.us\/2016\/11\/23\/press-release-board-authorizes-land-acquisition\/"},"modified":"2020-06-03T21:58:25","modified_gmt":"2020-06-03T21:58:25","slug":"press-release-board-authorizes-land-acquisition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sherwood.k12.or.us\/2016\/11\/23\/press-release-board-authorizes-land-acquisition\/","title":{"rendered":"Press Release: Board Authorizes Land Acquisition"},"content":{"rendered":"<div xmlns=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/1999\/xhtml\">\n<table cellspacing=\"0\" class=\"sites-layout-name-one-column sites-layout-hbox\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td class=\"sites-layout-tile sites-tile-name-content-1\">\n<div dir=\"ltr\">\n<div><font size=\"3\"><span>\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span>At its November 9, 2016, meeting, the Sherwood School District Board of Directors approved a resolution authorizing acquisition of property for the construction of a new high school. \u00a0The property identified in the resolution is located off Elwert Road, between Kruger and Haide Roads (Tax Lots 200, 201, and 207), and offers approximately 50 acres of regularly-shaped, flat, developable land for the new school.<\/font><\/div>\n<div><font size=\"3\"><br \/><\/font><\/div>\n<div><font size=\"3\"><span>\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span>Purchase of a school site is the first of a series of projects authorized by a $247.5 million bond passed by District voters at the November 8th general election. \u00a0\u201cWe\u2019re very grateful for the support shown by Sherwood voters for this bond,\u201d said Superintendent Dr. Heather Cordie. \u201cThese funds will allow us to address long-term capacity needs, improve safety and security in all our buildings, and provide needed technology and curriculum improvements.\u201d\u00a0<\/font><\/div>\n<div><font size=\"3\">\u00a0<\/font><\/div>\n<div><font size=\"3\"><span>\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span>Property owners in the identified area have been notified of the District\u2019s interest in purchasing their property, and have been invited to enter into negotiations. \u00a0The District is represented by Todd McCabe of the McCabe Real Estate Group. \u00a0\u00a0<\/font><\/div>\n<div><font size=\"3\"><br \/><\/font><\/div>\n<div><font size=\"3\"><span>\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span>The new high school, targeted for completion in 2020, will address overcrowding at the existing high school, while keeping Sherwood a one-high school community for the foreseeable future. \u00a0The existing high school site will become one middle school to serve the entire community. \u00a0Sherwood Middle School and Laurel Ridge Middle School will become elementary schools. \u00a0The shifts in student populations allow for greater enrollment capacity at every level. \u00a0\u201cPassage of this bond ensures we will be well-prepared to serve our current students and for the future growth of the Sherwood community,\u201d said Board Chair Jessica Adamson. \u00a0<\/font><\/div>\n<div><font size=\"3\">\u00a0<\/font><\/div>\n<div><font size=\"3\"><span>\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span>The District will continue to share information related to bond-funded projects on its website and through the monthly District Newsletter. \u00a0To receive these updates directly, please subscribe your email address to Key Communicators by visiting the District home page at www.sherwood.k12.or.us.<\/font><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0At its November 9, 2016, meeting, the Sherwood School District Board of Directors approved a resolution authorizing acquisition of property for the construction of&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":6,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[5],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v19.14 -
