Voters Approve Bond Measure in Support of Sherwood Schools<\/font><\/span><\/h3>\n

Facility upgrades, curriculum and technology, and construction of new
\nhigh school included in projects<\/font><\/span><\/i><\/h3>\n

Sherwood School District is proud to announce that voters in the Sherwood community have approved the passage of Ballot Measure 34-254, in support of Sherwood Schools.<\/font><\/span>\u00a0School District is proud to announce that voters in the Sherwood community have approved the passage of Ballot Measure 34-254, in support of Sherwood Schools.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the months leading up to yesterday\u2019s Election Day, Sherwood voters have received information about the bond measure placed on the ballot by Sherwood School District, and the projects that those funds would support across the District in a series of bond visioning meetings, as well as ongoing messages shared through Sherwood Gazette articles, social media, web site posts, monthly newsletters, and word-of-mouth.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Those proposed projects include: District-wide safety and security upgrades; District-wide deferred maintenance; curriculum and technology; construction of a new high school on a new site; and costs associated with the issuance of the bond.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0<\/font><\/span>According to the<\/span>\u00a0Oregon Secretary of State\u2019s Election Results Page<\/span><\/a>, Ballot Measure 34-254 was approved with 54% of voters in favor.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0<\/font><\/span>The approval of the bond means that Sherwood School District can better serve not only the students in our buildings today, but generations to come, as they attend schools with improved access to curriculum and technology, and will enjoy the added space and supportive learning communities at every level.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>What this bond also means for our community is that school facilities will be safer as a result of the deferred maintenance, seismic upgrades, and security features that will be implemented.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0<\/font><\/span>The District announced in July 2016 that Sherwood School District was selected as one of only 11 school districts (out of 29 applicants) statewide that were approved to receive the Oregon School Capital Improvement Match (OSCIM) grant.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>The award of the grant, established by Senate Bill 447 and approved by the Oregon State Legislature in the 2015 Regular Session, is contingent on passage of a general obligation bond during the November 2016 election.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Now, because of your support, Sherwood School District will be awarded $4,468,542 in matching grant funds as a result of your vote.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0<\/font><\/span>Sherwood School District is grateful to every member of the Measure 34-254 Bond Campaign Committee who spent countless hours and resources over the past several months and weeks to share the message of the bond with the community and educate voters on the proposed projects within it.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>The future possibilities of what this bond will mean for all Sherwood Schools, and the staff and students we serve in our District, will be realized thanks to the tireless efforts of Bond Campaign Committee members, volunteers, and other bond supporters who helped spread the word and dedicated time canvassing neighborhoods, making calls in the phone banks, mailing postcards, and participating in the bond visioning process and community forum.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0<\/font><\/span>District leaders, staff and the Board of Directors wish to thank every voter who participated in supporting Ballot Measure 34-254.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Superintendent Heather Cordie said, \u201cWe are truly thankful that at a time when we are facing capacity challenges in a growing community and have to prepare the school district for rising enrollment forecasts, that we received such a positive response from Sherwood residents.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>The support of our community has created a wonderful opportunity for your young learners to continue to receive a high quality education in Sherwood and the impact will be felt for years to come.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
